When you think of Karl Poynter some of you may conjure up the image or a rider going backwards, maybe doing a slider. Karl may like to go backwards but he is much more than a freecoaster assassin. He is someone that finds a passion in something and dives in headfirst making it his own. That is one of the things I really like about Karl is that he is not afraid to do his own thing. And he’ll do it with such originality and style making you wish to yourself you could do that. ?-Leigh.

What is your favorite type of riding?
-Freestyle. I like riding it all, but street would be my favorite. It's the whole process of street riding. I really enjoy cruising through the streets in a new city hunting for spots and then coming up with fun tricks on whatever obstacle I've came across.

Do you remember the first thing you did on a bike?
-I don't know if I can pinpoint the very first thing I did on a bike when I started to ride BMX, but one of my earlier memories would have to be sitting sticks on the ground so I could use them as a crutch to get my wheel up for a wheelie or manual. I was so young and small that I didn't have the strength to pull the front end up all the way. The sticks help make that happen.

-Japan

-Phoenix, Arizona
-Portland, Oregon

You are into other things like riding your 26", photography and Paintball. How do balance the time with all that?
-If you really want to do something, then you can make time for it, especially if it's something you're passionate about. It just so happens I ended up discovering I had a passion for a few things.

What is a perfect riding session to you?
-A mixture of good people, music, and weather. If you have those three ingredients, then it doesn't matter what you're riding. It's a guaranteed perfect session!
